  • Region

    Sardegna or as we know it Sardinia is the second biggest island in the Mediterranean after Sicily. This region's neighbours are Corsica (France) in the north, the Italian Peninsula in the east, with Tunisia in the south and the Balearic Islands in the west.

    Beautiful Sardinia has generally rocky coasts, however the Mediterranean climate ensures a unique summer climate from April to November. The main source of income here is from tourism, people come to this island by the thousands year in year out to see a region steeped in ancient history offering remains of human settlements from the Neolithic age. A Region known and loved internationally Sardinia literally offers something for all taste buds.

  • Provinces

    Cagliari:

    Cagliari is the regions capital, which can be found on the south coast of Sardinia in the wide Gulf of the Cagliari. The old paese town is known as the Castello, which sits in the hill giving amazing panoramic views. At the bottom of the hill sit the newer parts of the town districts.Cagliari has plenty of historic delights to capture one of which is the ruins of an old medieval town, which were only exposed during some road maintenance. This is a very popular holiday resort with a buoyant industrial port and offers a unique Italian feel to it. There is an outstanding array of things to see on offer here in including the National Archaeological Museum, an impressive Cathedral and a large variety of ancient Roman ruins. Poetto has a beautiful 6km strip of beach filled with lidos, bars and restaurants.

    Carbonia-Iglesias:

    Carbonia-Iglesias can be found in the southwestern region of Sardinia. A largely undiscovered and tranquil province offering more of a local feel with traditional foods and wines on offer coupled with true Italian hospitability.
    Medio Campidano:
    Medio Campidano can be found in the southeastern area of Sardinia, north of Cagliari.

    Nuoro:

    Nuoro can be found in the heart of Sardinia towards the eastern coast at the bottom of Monte Ortobene. This is a province that had largely gone unnoticed until 1950 and was predominantly the home of many shepherds. However, recent developments have ensured the area is very much up and coming with 50km of new roads to improve the infrastructure and planting of 2,000,000 wild Olive trees. An area that offers a truly distinctive opportunity, a feel for real Italy, whilst still offering a bustling market, in the heart of the city centre and a superb summer resort. Nuoro offers its visitors an outstanding experience of the different landscapes in this province, whether it is a mountain trek, a food excursion to sampling some of the wonderful varieties on offer or just taking in the Romanesque architecture.

    Ogliastra:

    Ogliastra can be found in eastern Sardinia with a small population of only 58,000 people. It has a very medieval feeling about this province and is quite simply an area yet to be discovered therefore offering a very unique and extraordinary opportunity to view an area that has been left largely untouched.

    Olbia-Tempio:

    Olbia Tempio can be found located on the northeastern coast of Sardinia.

    Oristano:

    Oristano can be found located on the eastern coast of Sardinia south of Sassari and only 68km from the heart of Sardinia. This province has an abundance of archaeological artifacts relating back to the Middle Ages, giving some wonderful sites to see. Oristano's central piazza is called Roma Square, which is crammed with ancient remains of the old town walls. A site to cast your eyes would be the tower that was first constructed back in 1291 by Mariano II, which consists of a huge building over three floors with the third floor being home to a petite tower with an ancient bell. This historical province has a marvellous selection of local wines with the most popular being Vernaccia of Oristano wine that is something to be savoured. Oristano is no stranger to churches and is home to the St Francis Church, Church of St Dominic and the Church of St Clare that has a very unusual gothic styling to it. Of course, this is area is ripe with other things to see and do such as visiting Antiquarium Arborense Museum that is very typically holds ancient Roman and Nuraghic ruins or visiting the stunning Torre Grande beach which is not too far away from the town centre. During the month of February you can enjoy the carnival phase, which hosts the renowned Sartiglia (Equestrian competition).

    Sassari:

    Sassari can be found in the northwest of Sardinia at 225m metres over sea level with the Nurra Plain located in the west, covering much of the main part of the territory. This province is considered to be the second largest with a population reaching over 320,000 people. It is home to a fantastic assortment of fine art and is considered to an ancient city. Sassari is a lush green province filled with Olive and oak trees with a wonderful assortment of wild flowers and shrub land. The main income for this province comes from construction, Pharmaceuticals, food and tourism. Sassari is a Mecca for research centres such Center of Regional Weather Service and the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection. Sassari has three main beach resorts that are hot spots to catch a beautiful golden tan or for dipping your toes in the ocean; Platamona, Porto Ferro and Argentiera. For those who prefer a real insight into Sassari's fascinating history you can take a trip to the historical museum of "Brigata Sassari" the Museum of Sassari history.

  • Culture

    Art in Sardinia goes back to the Neolithic era of 4000-6000 BC which produced terracotta vase remains decorated by sea shells and clams which were pressed into unhardened clay.
    Culture of Bonu Ighino initiated during 2500-4000 BC with urban civilizations decorating ceramics along with Culture of Ozieri.

    Inhabited ever since the Paleolithic era, Sardinia still holds a few delicate traces of ancient history from this time. Sardinia boomed since the Neolithic era and nowadays has many diverse cultures still to be seen in various artifacts and monuments.

    Many years ago Sardinians used to live in caves then huts living on food they produced themselves or hunted, they lived off the land.  They constructed stone idols to worship a female Goddess Mother to protect their fields and animals some of which can still be seen today in "Domus de Janas" which locals say are witches or fairies whose faces are engraved into the mountain.

  • Activities

    Sardinia offers an abundance of things to see and do such as horse riding, sport fishing, sailing and golf. There is a superb golf course in Porto Cervo; Pevero Golf Club, which caters for all skill level as well as having some astonishing views.

    For the active visitor there are delightful walking routes taking you to some of the best landscaping Sardinia has to offer as well as a perfect opportunity to dip your toes into the water with snorkelling or even heading to one of regional parks such as Parco Naturale Regionale di Porto Conte to see the native wildlife.

    If you're looking for a spot of relaxation why not head to The Baths of Sardara which, hosts two magnificent Spa Resorts giving you the chance the unwind and be pampered on your trip.

    There is no shortage of wonderful restaurants here where you can taste some local delicacies or having an afternoon wandering through the street markets to see some of the local workmanship.

  • Travel

    By Plane:

    Sardinia has three international airports: Alghero Airport, Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, Cagliari lmas Airport all of which are easily accessed from most Italian airports and from the UK. These are also serviced by flights from Spain and Germany. 

    Ryanair flies into Bari, Lamezia and Rome then internal flights can be taken into the Sardinia.

    By Train:

    Sardinia is very easy to access and has train lines connecting Golfo Aranci on the northeast line and Porto Torres-Sassari to Calgari on the northwest line.
