Beautiful enchanting Campania offers is visitors 350km of coastline on the Tyrrhenian sea, bordering Lazio to the northwest, Molise to the north, Apulia to the northeast and Basilicata to the east. This region is a mass of hills, a varied landscape and of course a superb Mediterranean climate throughout the summer. The inner areas of this region do tend to somewhat cooler than those of the coast but nonetheless offering a plethora of things to do and do.
Naples is the home of the Pizza, offering the traditional fried pizza or Calzone pizza. Spaghetti is also very popular here with Italians being the first to use tomatoes as an ingredient. Campania like many other Italian regions produces its very own wines, offering a flavour to suit all wine connoisseurs and every palette. The very famous Buffalo Mozzarella was first produced here and the Buffalo are actually bred mainly in Salerno.
A region offering an enormous amount of eye catching artifacts and cultural exploring to be done, this is an area that see's a huge influx of tourism year upon year which is turn ensures a very healthy rental market.
Campania is famously known for being home to The Vesuvius, which is an active volcano, situated on the golf of Naples. Amongst the cosmic list of things to do and see in this exquisite province one of the most popular areas is the Amalfi coast, full of stunning terrain, shopping and of course nightlife.
- Provinces
Avellino
Avellino can be found on the northeast of Naples and is one of the main roads between Salerno and Benevento. This province was hurt by the explosion of Versuvius many years ago, however has very much kept hold of its medieval roots and offers a variety of cathedrals and pilgrimage shrines.
Benevento
Benevento can be found 50km northeast of Naples and can be found in inner Campania 400ft above sea level, which has Molise and Puglia as neighbours. It is home the Catholic Arch Bishop and offers probably one of Italy's more severe landscapes with rocky and mountainous terrain offering plenty of walking routes for the more active visitor. This unusual province offers such attractions, as the Arch of Trajan one is the one of the numerous Roman structures in Campania also not forgetting the Santa Quaranta Appia over the river Sabbato. Benevento is very much a trading town and their main sources of income is from food including olives, pasta and also tobacco. This province is steeped in history and has an abundance of historical artifacts such as ancient remains as well as the Church of Santa Sofia, The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and The castle of Benevento.
Caserta
This province can be found situated on the border of the Campanian plain at the end of the Subapeninnine mountain range and is a city famous for the Palace of Caserta. The Royal Palace of Caserta was built for the Kings of Naples, constructed by Luigi Vanvitelli probably one of Italy's finest architects and today is a known world heritage site. Caserta is a popular favourite to local Italians who travel to see its many wonders and gasp at the sheer beauty of the Palace, which has 1200 rooms!
Naples
This province has Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast to the south and the surrounding islands of Procida, Capri and Ischia. Naples, the regions capital and offers homes to over 3 million people. Naples is an area that everyone who hasn't been there has at least heard of or knows someone whose has visited. A city full of five star hotels, B&B's and apartments for visitors to rent, this is a fast moving region and very much in the hustle and bustle. However, this metropolitan areas city centre is in fact a UNESCO protected are and offers a wonderful variety of pizzas, pastas and of course cakes with the most famous being the Baba Cake that is generally rum flavoured. Neapolitans are coffee experts and can whip up the most amazing coffee you will ever try!
This diverse area has a never ending lists of fantastic things to do and take advantage of whilst your visiting, however some of the most famous attractions to see are; mount Vesuvius which is around 6 miles east of Naples, its an astonishing site and is the only volcano in Europe to have erupted in the past 100 years. Naples is the most Catholic city in the world, which actually has over 488 churches!Salerno
Salerno is located on the Gulf of Salerno on the Tyrrhenian Sea, on the beginning of the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast is one of the most famous and beautiful stretches of coastline in Italy, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitor's year upon year. It is a charismatic, tranquil town offering picturesque views and gives its visitors a taste of medieval architecture. Salerno has some magnificent attractions including the ancient ruins of Pompeii, a somewhat covered Roman town which will almost completely destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD and today stands just 5 miles from that very volcano. Another delight to view is Paestum, which is a UNESCO protected world heritage site. The Amalfi coast and Salerno generally have fantastic year round weather with it rarely going below 10°C.

Campania is rich in ancient ruins mainly in Pompeii and Paestrum as well as offering a wonderful array of amphitheatres and of course not forgetting the Royal Palace of Caserta with its typically baroque décor giving you a little insight into the amazing history that lies behind this grand building. Campania has mainly been at the heart of Western Civilization; the region was occupied within Magna Graecia until the Romans took over. This region was an area treasured by emperors after the Romans finally had hold of it. It only became independent states after the Normans took over where is was then recognized as Kingdom of Sicily which then introduced various cultures such as Spanish and French. It didn't form part of the new state of Italy until 1860 when the Bourbons then dominated the region.

Campania is an area that rivals the others of Italy offering its visitors a Mecca for shopping whether it is high-end boutique shops or just going to local market to sample the native handicraft.
There is just an abundance of opportunity here with of course the famous Amalfi Coast being on the top of most peoples lists, beautiful beaches, diverse landscape and a Mediterranean coast makes this area a Mecca for the rich and famous to visit.
Campania offers something wonderful for all ages, be it taking a hike through the hills to get a glimpse of the fantastic landscape dotted amongst the rolling hills, taking some dance lessons or even just a spot of tennis. For those who like to have a tipple or two; Naples is the province to tick that box with a superb variety of bars, restaurant's and nightclubs to suit all music preferences.
Throughout, the year in Campania there is a jam packed schedule of festivals such as the Festival of the Madonna of the Graces or Costumed races and sports meets as well giving you the opportunity to sit back and enjoy an Opera or even some live entertainment.

By plane:
Campania is actually frequently accessed by direct UK flights into Naples International Airport or Napales Capodichino, which is the main airport. Flights can be found with Ryanair, BA and Thomson. Easyjet fly to Linate Airport, which is close to Campania. Flights can also be found from Rome to Palma Campania as well as flights into Bari with BA Monday, Wednesday and Friday every week.
Flights to Rome from the UK can also be found with Aerlingus and Brussels Airlines.By train:
Campania is served by a number of rail lines including Ferriore dello stato, Ferrovie Calabro Lucane and of course not forgetting the Linea a Monte del Vesuvio which is the new Naples-Salerno high-speed railway line which opened in June 2008 meaning you could fly into Naples from the UK then hope on a train to Salerno.
